KONOBA I'M A WOLF (FEAT ELLIE FORD)

For those who have come in contact with or are even avid fans of contemporary Belgian music, then you’ll now that whether French or Flemish, the musicians of this country move in a groove of their own. For those who haven’t heard much in the way of this regional sound before, then an excellent place to start is with Konoba and his alternative outpouring, “I’m A Wolf”. Bouncing along lines of exquisite funk rhythm, the Brussels-based artist Raphael Esterhazy croons along with this laidback vibe. A particular highlight here is the waltz-paced chorus and repeated lyric “I’m a wolf, you the moon, can you hear me sing to you?” - complete with in-tune howl and all. Every element from the violin samples, to the driving bass, to the electronic keys melody, to the surprising tribalistic drums has been artfully pieced together proving that the five years spent studying music in the UK was time well spent. However, what really enables this song to take flight is Brighton singer Ellie Ford, whose light-textured vocal provides much-needed yin to Konoba’s yang. -HT
